Sunday- July 14, 2019
Today we start our long adventure to the most beautiful parts of the Western United States. Our first place of interest will be Herbert Hoover’s Birthplace, a great stop in the small-town West Branch, Iowa. The grounds include a Visitor Center, Birthplace Cottage, Blacksmith Shop, Schoolhouse and Gravesite. We will continue traveling through Iowa and overnight in Coralville.
Monday - July 15, 2019
Monday will take us to Sioux City, Iowa. But first, we stop to learn about the cowboys and the most famous on-screen-cowboy, John Wayne. At the John Wayne Birthplace Museum, you will learn about the small-town local boy who grew up to be a great actor. We will make another pit-stop at the Roseman Covered Bridge that inspired “Bridges of Madison County”. B
Tuesday – July 16, 2019
You will be delighted by the visual masterpiece that is the Corn Palace. It is truly an art and cultural experience. After lunch, we will head to South Dakota and roam the Badlands National Park. This park shows off a variety of geological wonders formed by nature. Dinner will be a stop at the famous Wall Drug Store, known for offering free ice water during the Great Depression. Tonight, we will rest in Rapid City, South Dakota where we will overnight for the next two nights! B, D
Wednesday – July 17, 2019
We will be joining a Mountain Rushmore Sight-Seeing Tour today, taking us through the Black Hills National Park. Before loading the bus, we will enjoy an “all-you-can-eat” cowboy pancake breakfast! Tonight you will be dining on the movie set of Dances with Wolves which includes a full dinner + show at the the Fort Hays Chuckwagon. If that is not enough excitement, our tour will take us to Mount Rushmore and Iron Mountain Road. The stops include: Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Sylvan Lake, The State Game Lodge and the Crazy Horse Mountain and Memorial. B, D
Thursday—July 18, 2019
This morning, we will take a two-hour guided tour through the Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary. Experience the beauty of wild horses of all kinds, roaming the land just like they did when it was settled. The next stop is at Devil’s Tower National Monument before Western Buffet Dinner in Wyoming at Bozeman Steakhouse. B, D
Friday – July 19, 2019
Today we have scenic travel through Big Horn National Forest. Big Horn is the sister mountain range of the Rocky Mountains- full of breath-taking views. We will stop for lunch at Buffalo Bill Center of the West and explore the building which hosts five museums. Tonight, we will stay at the Buffalo Bill Village Resort. But the fun does not stop after check-in! A shuttle bus will be taking us to our night entertainment—the Cody Nite Rodeo. Cody is known for being the longest running (since 1938) and only nightly rodeo in world! B, L
Saturday – July 20, 2019
A real treat today, as we wonder through Yellowstone National Park. We will be making photo op stops along the way and will get to see a couple of geysers and plenty prairie dogs. We will watch Old Faithful before departing the park and staying the night in Jackson, Wyoming at the Antler Inn. B
Sunday – July 21, 2019
Something different for our Sunday… a peaceful Scenic Float tour down the Snake River with Mad River Boats. We will be able to see the Teton Range and other fantastic views throughout the 13-mile float. We will then have some free time to explore Jackson before a BBQ Dinner at Bar J ChuckWagon. This famous cowboy-themed dinner includes entertainment by the Bar J Wranglers, shops, and exhibits. D
Monday – July 22, 2019
Before leaving Jackson, we will stop for breakfast at The Virginian – on your own. Today is a travel day throughout Wyoming before we spend the night in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Tuesday – July 23, 2019
We are heading to another National Park today— Rocky Mountain National Park. There is so much to see as we make our way through! We progress through the state and overnight in Longmont, Colorado. B
Wednesday – July 24, 2019
The tour makes its way to Denver today! We will explore the three floors of the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. We will get our taste of the Kansas fields as we travel to Colby for the night. B
Thursday – July 25, 2019
Another historical stop on our way back to Kentucky. We will stretch our legs and tour the Dwight D Eisenhower Presidential Library & Museum. There is so much history on-site; we will check out Ike’s life and legacy throughout the Visitor’s Center, Boyhood Home, Presidential Library and the newly renovated Museum. We will make it to Blue Springs, MO in time to enjoy the Drury Inn & Suites Kickback. Relax after a long day with complimentary drinks and snacks. B
Friday—July 26, 2019
Today is the final leg of the trip. We will head home with tons of pictures and memories of the wonders of the west! B
